Product Description

1J85, also known as an iron-nickel soft magnetic alloy, is a precision magnetic material containing approximately 80–85% nickel and the rest iron. It is widely used in applications requiring high initial permeability and low coercivity. With a smooth metallic silver-gray appearance, 1J85 bars are available in a variety of diameters and lengths, precisely manufactured to ensure consistent magnetic performance.

This alloy is sometimes referred to as Permalloy 85 or High-Permeability Nickel Alloy, and is commonly supplied in round bar, rod, or wire form. Our 1J85 bars are carefully heat treated to meet the highest industrial standards.

Technology

The 1J85 bar is processed through a series of precision melting, hot rolling, cold drawing, and annealing techniques. To achieve optimal soft magnetic performance, controlled atmosphere annealing is applied to enhance grain structure and reduce internal stresses. This allows the material to exhibit superior magnetic permeability and minimum core losses in low-frequency AC magnetic circuits.

Theory

The behavior of 1J85 is governed by its high nickel content, which allows for low magnetic anisotropy and high domain wall mobility. This makes it highly responsive to weak magnetic fields and ideal for magnetic induction and shielding applications. The B-H curve of 1J85 is steep, indicating excellent magnetic response with minimal applied field.
