2. Characteristics

Incoloy 925 wire is an age-hardenable superalloy optimized for extreme mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in aggressive environments:

  • High Strength‌: Achieves 1100-1450 MPa tensile strength after cold working and aging, surpassing Inconel 718 in chloride-rich conditions.

  • Sulfide Stress Corrosion Cracking (SSCC) Resistance‌: Mo-Cu-Ti synergy prevents cracking in H₂S-containing environments (NACE Level VII compliance).

  • Acid Resistance‌: Resists sulfuric, phosphoric, and hydrochloric acids due to Ni-Cr-Mo matrix.

  • Thermal Stability‌: Retains 85% of room-temperature strength at 400°C.

  • Fatigue Resistance‌: Endurance limit of 550 MPa (10⁷ cycles) in seawater.

  • Fabrication Flexibility‌: Compatible with cold heading, machining, and TIG welding.


3. Technology

Manufacturing Process‌:

  • Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) + Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR)‌: Ensures ultra-low gas content (O₂ < 30 ppm, N₂ < 50 ppm).

  • Thermomechanical Processing‌:

    • Hot rolling at 950-1150°C to break down cast structures.

    • Cold drawing with 20-50% reduction for strain hardening.

  • Heat Treatment‌:

    • Solution annealing at 980-1010°C followed by water quenching.

    • Aging at 620-650°C for 16 hours to precipitate γ' (Ni₃(Ti,Al)) strengthening phases.

  • Surface Engineering‌: Electropolishing (Ra < 0.5 μm) for enhanced pitting resistance.

  • Molybdenum-Copper Synergy‌: Mo enhances chloride SCC resistance, while Cu improves reducing acid corrosion via cathodic polarization.

  • Grain Boundary Engineering‌: Controlled Ti/C ratio prevents M₂₃C₆ carbide formation at grain boundaries, eliminating sensitization risks.

  • Nickel Matrix Dominance‌: High Ni content stabilizes austenite and ensures ductility at cryogenic temperatures.

  • Hydrogen Embrittlement Mitigation‌: Low C content (<0.03%) and Ti scavenging minimize hydrogen trap sites.
