Product Details

Controlled Expansion Alloy Sheet 4J36 (Invar 36) for Aerospace and Optical Instruments

Overview
4J36, also known globally as Invar 36, is a precision-controlled expansion alloy consisting of 36% nickel and the rest iron. It is widely used in high-precision components due to its extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), making it an ideal choice for aerospace, optics, and cryogenics.

Product Features

  • Very low thermal expansion from -100°C to 200°C

  • High dimensional stability over temperature changes

  • Retains mechanical strength at cryogenic temperatures

  • Good weldability, forming and machining characteristics

  • Available in multiple customized sheet formats

Applications
4J36 is critical for:

  • Aerospace structural components and gyroscope frames

  • Optical instruments and telescopic mounts

  • Laser measurement tools and temperature-sensitive housings

  • Precision standards, metrology devices, and pendulums

  • Cryogenic support fixtures and LNG storage systems

Working Mechanism
The alloy’s unique thermal behavior comes from the interplay between nickel and iron atoms. The low expansion rate is due to magnetic ordering (Invar effect), which stabilizes atomic spacing during thermal fluctuations.
