Precision Alloy Rod
Product Details
The Permalloy Rod, commercially known as 1J50 Bar, Nickel-Iron Magnetic Rod, or Magnetic Core Bar, is a soft magnetic material composed of 50% Nickel and 50% Iron. This high-performance alloy is well known for its exceptional magnetic permeability and minimal coercive force, making it ideal for applications that require rapid magnetization in low-field environments.
Permalloy rods appear metallic silver-gray with a smooth finish and are typically available in diameters ranging from 3mm to 80mm and lengths up to 3 meters, depending on customer specifications. Each rod is precisely drawn and vacuum-annealed for optimized microstructure and magnetic consistency.
High Maximum Magnetic Permeability (μm ≥ 80,000)
Low Coercive Force (Hc ≤ 2.5 A/m)
Excellent Dimensional Stability During Operation
Resistant to Magnetic Aging
Customizable Size and Surface Finish
Permalloy rods are manufactured using a combination of vacuum induction melting, hot forging, precision cold drawing, and hydrogen annealing. This process ensures that the magnetic domains within the alloy are optimally aligned and the internal stress is minimized, which directly contributes to improved magnetic behavior and long-term stability.
During hydrogen annealing, the rods are heated to approximately 1100°C and cooled in a controlled environment to remove oxides and residual stress, making them suitable for magnetic core machining.
The underlying principle of Permalloy’s performance lies in its soft magnetic behavior. Its high nickel content allows domain walls to move with minimal resistance under external magnetic fields, making it ideal for transformer cores, magnetic amplifiers, and sensing devices. The low coercivity and high permeability ensure that magnetic energy is transferred efficiently with minimal hysteresis loss, especially in alternating current (AC) environments.
This Permalloy bar, under its various names, finds diverse applications:
As a Transformer Core Rod – For voltage regulation and signal precision in low-frequency applications
In Magnetic Amplifiers – Where fast and reversible magnetization is necessary
As a Sensor Core Material – In Hall sensors, induction coils, and magnetic switches
For Electromagnetic Component Fabrication – Such as choke coils and relays
In Magnetic Field Measurement Instruments – Including magnetic permeability testing devices
